Kuroshitsuji in Aniway

So, did any of you Dutchies read the article in Aniway about Kuroshitsuji? There is this most awesome Kuro poster in it, which is making my wall even more awesome than it already was (even thought I promised not to put up more posters)!

But back to the article, I think we found a guy that is PMS-ing!! Why else would he write about Kuro being such a bad series? Did he even bother to read it? I think he was really negative, even before reading it, and didn't want to see anything positive about it, just because so many yaoi fans love it. If he knew he wouldn't start liking it he shouldn't have agreed on writing the damn article.

He says Sebastian is boring because he is perfect! O_o Okay, please leave me a comment and tell me if you think Sebastian is boring and making the story boring! Doesn't his perfectness makes you wonder how he is going to solve the next difficult problem?

He says Kuroshitsuji is predictable. He probably never reached the part about Noa's arc or better, the zombie filled ship. They contain things I think were not predictable at all.

He says the first chaps are only written to get Sebastian en Ciel in one room. Okay, gotta agree that the beginning is especially lovey-dovey. But normal people call that an introduction (but a PMS-ing guy is not normal, so can't expect much of him, can we?). We gotta get to know the characters and the way they live right? And the lovey-dovey-ness is all fake, because there is so much blood and death in the later chapters!

He says the side characters are a bit cliche and don't have much of a background. Either read more of the manga or watch the anime already. There we get to know more about Bard, Finnian and Maylin and why they are so clumsy. And even if they were super flat characters, gotta love at least one of them, ne?

He is allowed to have his own opinion about Kuro, but he didn't start reading this with an open mind. He could only think about the big, bad yaoi and couldn't see the wonderful story that's behind the love between master and butler. Kinda sad.

This post totally contains my thoughts about the article. The cool poster makes it up a tiny little bit. Damn PMS-ing guy! Really, I wanted to kill while I went through the article! D:< I just loooove the lovey-dovey part and if Sebastian wasn't perfect, then the whole setting of this story wouldn't be fun anymore >_< And pleeeease, the side-characters are totally not cliche. I mean, in the anime we learn about the history of Madame Red, Maylene, Bard, Finnian, Undertaker (a bit) and ofcourse Ciel's. Even the shinigami got some background story later in the OVAs. That guy totally didn't dive into the series! That makes me sooo mad. To look at a series with such a mind. If you want to make a good and fair review, you should start watching/reading with an open mind!
OPEN MIND!

Right!! I was pissed too, when he wrote that disclaimer I was already pissed.

I can see he doesn't like the lovey-dovey stuff. That is really a yaoi-fan-thing, but there are so much other things to like about Kuro!

Madame Red has the most awesome and surprising background ever. Not cliche and unexpected!

They should have made somebody else write it! Someone who isn't biased!

[identity profile] mimi91chan.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. At first I was like, OMG they wrote a review about Kuro! And it's on the cover :D And then I read and I was like OMG, they sooo totally raped it >_<

I agree about the lovey-dovey stuff, but still if you're not yaoi-fan, then it's still acceptable I think. And it's not that the whole story is about the lovey-dovey between butler and master.

I agree, it was fun to see and the same time, we also got to know a bit more about Ciel's background! :D

Exactly. Someone open-minded should make reviews. It's OK if you don't like it, but this was just craziness >_< He was soo biased when writing the review that I absolutely can't call that a good review anymore >_<

[identity profile] tacuma811.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I knew there was going to be Kuro in it, so I was looking forward to it for days already! And then it sucked so much! Lucky them to put a poster of Kuro in it!

I think most anime fans don't mind looking through the yaoi. I mean, I don't mind if there are hints of yuri in something either.

Lol, but Ciel is a main character XD We better get to know more about him, otherwise the story surely would suck!

Yeah, shouldn't let an obsessed yaoi fangirl write something like that either, but there is something between a fangirl and this PMS-ing guy, right?

[identity profile] mimi91chan.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the poster that makes me not throw it away XD

I don't mind hints of yuri either, though I do might watch with less interest if there will be much hints ^_^;

Yeah, we have to learn everything about the main character XD

I bet that group is called 'normal' XD I'm glad I'm not 'normal'. At times, that's so boring XD

[identity profile] tacuma811.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
And Durarara xD Shizuo and Izaya were in there!!!

True, if there are too many hints I wouldn't like it as much either, but I wouldn't write a lousy review!

That is why doujinshi is invented XD And fanfiction!

Being normal is just crazy
psiten: (what?!!)

Sebastian, boring?! He's awesome! First of all, this columnist clearly knows nothing about butler archetypes or establishing relative power dynamics in a system where a high-level demon is living among normal humans. Second, he's got no eye whatsoever for character interaction or personality. They're the only thing that make "perfect" characters work long term (for example, the valet who basically created the character type of the "perfect butler", Jeeves in Jeeves and Wooster), and Kuroshitsuji delivers 100% on giving these people interesting personalities and chemistry! And not even just Sebastian and Ciel's obvious subtext... the whole cast meshes brilliantly.

In short, that guy's full of crap - QED.

[identity profile] tacuma811.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad I find people who agree with me! Because really, is there anyting boring about Sebastian in the first place? All personalities in Kuro are interesting. They're a good combination, they don't get cliche and they all manage to catch your attention in a different way! He should try to write something like that!

I'm sure he'd find it harder than he could ever imagine. Of course, there are some funny things I've learned, running anime clubs off and on for the past six or seven years... a lot of yaoi-friendly shows get written off within the first episode by people who've never heard of them before and have never heard of yaoi just because they're not in tune with the style of characters and the sort of interpersonal dynamics that show up. It's like, they don't know what they're looking at because it doesn't instinctively make sense. But then, most of the time if I give them a running narration of what connections the show is establishing and make leading hints about how it's going to lead to something badass later all through the first episode or two, they're totally into it. Go figure. (It's even working to get them through Prince of Tennis -- with the side effect that Fuji is everyone's favorite character ^_^ ).

[identity profile] tacuma811.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I almost always try more than one episode. One episode says nothing about the entire series. I guess some people should read a little about it on Wikipedia before they start something. Then they will know if they will like the series or not. And you're doing a good job promoting certain anime XD Make them all love TezukaFuji XD

[personal profile] psiten 2011-09-09 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm on it. ^_^b They'll be more into TezukaFuji once we get past the Hyoutei arc and TeFu say goodbye on the roof, I'm sure. And there's totally a TeFu moment in the ending credits of the new OVA!! I'm translating it as fast as I can, I promise, but for now just look at how cute they are!

I've seen the pic and I love it! Tezuka looks so vulnerable! I really wanna see the OVA. You're translating it? The OVA's? Wow, awesome!

I'm in the middle of constructing my post for the chibi featurette and the movie promo that came with the DVD. The actual episodes are taking longer because the songs can be a little hard to hear, Kansai is not my strongest dialect, and well... they're longer. But now the nasty issues with getting my footage to sync up are over (it's been a heck of a week making that work), I'm ready to make something awesome!!

You should totally watch the movie preview: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KHF3JZOX

Make sure to change the _avi to .avi -- I have to mess with the file name like that to keep MegaUpload from streaming it.

[identity profile] tacuma811.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I see, good luck then!! ^____^ You're awesome! Downloading it now, hope it will work (my computer keeps failing me when I try to watch vids XD;;)

[identity profile] willeke4439.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I agreed with the article, it perfecly captures why I don't think the series is good. ^^; If you'd take out the yaoi there'd be nothing substantial left. But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it for what it is. ^^

[identity profile] tacuma811.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
No, there really is more than just yaoi hints. First manga is the big introduction of the characters, the setting and the possibilities. Lots of hints. One big hint probably. But in the second volume there is the Madame Red case already and that is so much deeper than yaoi. It's so awesome, even if you would have seriously ugly characters in their place! There are so many awesome stories in it that are fun to read, even if Sebastian wouldn't be carrying Ciel around!

[identity profile] willeke4439.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I watched the entire anime, and it just didn't capture me. I can't relate to any of the characters either, which is usually an important point for me too. ^^ And I don't like the graphic violence. But that's probably just me being weird. ORZ

[identity profile] tacuma811.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
The anime isn't half as good as the manga and the article was only about the manga. In the anime the yaoi is even worse. Not bad, but there is a lot more. Cases are cut short or are changed, like the ark of Noah.
I can't relate to any of them either, but I just gotta love them all for being so awesome in their own way.
Is there graphic violence in the Kuro anime? I might be so used to it that I don't really remember XD;; I don't really watch series where nobody dies

[identity profile] willeke4439.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought that killing people by throwing forks into their heads/eyes was pretty graphic.... XD

[identity profile] tacuma811.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, forks and knifes. That wasn't so bad! No body parts were chopped off!

[identity profile] mimi91chan.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think that it's just you being weird. I think that these kind of anime just doesn't hit you like other anime do ^^ You have your own genres you like and I think this one doesn't really belong to your genres you want to watch ^^ But that is just my opinion. I have my respect for everyone who doesn't like it. That's like not liking Naruto or Bleach while dozens do like it. This time it's about yaoi (maybe a more sensitive genre, but theoretically it doesn't matter) and it's an anime I do like, but that's really all ^^;

If oyu don't like the series, I don't care. Then you just don't like it ^_~ I just disagree on how he got to his comments. I don't care if he likes it or not, but saying it's rubbish just because YOU don't like it because of what you heard is something to get mad at. If he would have drawn that conclusion after reading some chapters/volumes, then I can respect it and I wouldn't make a fuzz about it at all ^^;

I hope that if he writes another review, he will do some research on the manga and try it out for at least one volume or a few chapters. I just want him to write a fair and square review and not something based on what he heard or what he thinks without trying it out ^^;

Sorry for the spam! T_T

[identity profile] willeke4439.livejournal.com 2011-09-10 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
To be fair, the guy did read everything of the manga that's available until now before making his conclusions, so it's not like he based it on just a few chapters or only one volume. (he said so on the Aniway forum at least XD ) And if he still didn't like it after reading that much of it, it can't be helped. ^^;

[identity profile] tacuma811.livejournal.com 2011-09-10 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Still no reason to write such a lousy one-sided review.

[identity profile] sindraa.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess I totally agree with you the article didn't really give a fair idea about the manga. My first surprise was actually when he wrote he thought it was a yaoi manga and there were too much hints toward SebastianxCiel. I actually never even considered the manga to have much homoerotic stuff... except for Grell that is. (The rest is just teasing...? Maybe a bit lovey-dovey...? But certainly no yaoi for as far I look. I guess there's as much yaoi as you want there to be.)
And well, since he apparently thinks is BL and doesn't like BL, he just says the whole manga is terrible. He's allowed to have his own opinion, but he might have considered to say something that didn't come down to: "You'll love it if you love yoai, if you don't love yoai this is just rubbish." There's also something in-between there. People who just enjoy the series because Sebastian is so incredibly perfect and hot? Or because they think Ciel has an amazing personality? There's much more reasons than yaoi to like the series.

Anyway, the poster is making up a little, but the article is just rubbish. (Come on, if the series was really that bad, why would they still publish it?)

[identity profile] tacuma811.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Great! Always happy to hear I'm not the only one! The article didn't say much about the manga. It's not just Grell, I mean Sebastian doesn't mind touching Ciel at all, even when it's not necessary, and Ciel doesn't mind it either. I'm not too much into the pairing myself, but I can feel it in the manga sometimes. But it's definitely NOT a yaoi manga. He should try and read a yaoi manga for a chance XD
Yeah, I think there are plenty of people who are not into yaoi, but do love Kuroshitsuji. There are so many guys cosplaying Sebastian! I'm sure not all of them love yaoi and are not into SebastianxCiel. I'm sure they love the characters for who they are and for the awesome situations they get into!

Yup, loved the poster, it has Ciel in the costume I wanted to buy at first but that was way too expensive.

[identity profile] paranoid-fridge.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh dear, I usually skip anything written by supposed "mainstream" media on anime or manga. Thus I was utterly suprised when at one point I learned that watching anime has become a socially accepted way to spend time sometime during the last ten years. O.o

Back to Kuroshitsuji - while the series hasn't gotten to me as Pandora Hearts has, I still enjoy the monthly installments very, very much. :) Sure, the clichés are all there. But they're so much there, they're actually being subverted. For authors as the guy you described, having a closer look might pay of. I love the very particular sense of humor in Kuroshitsuji, and the wonderful play with clichés - which is admittedly not easy to see, especially when one isn't inclined to.

So boo for payroll writers that don't do the research and rather turn up their nose instead of doing what they're paid to. <.<

[identity profile] tacuma811.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It's written in an anime/manga magazine, so they normally don't write crap! Sometimes they do show their opinion a bit too much sometimes, like they did this time.

I stopped watching Pandora Hearts XD;;
I think all series have some cliches. It's really hard to make one without cliches! It's all about how the writer uses them. I think Toboso Yana uses them in a very nice way. There is wonderful humor in Kuroshitsuji, but also angst and adventure, which is a wonderful combination in this historical setting.

Yeah, he is just a terrible writer. Sad guy.
